Mumbwa
Mumbwa, Zambia is a small community village 2 hours west of the the capital city, Lusaka.
While gardening is a viable way to make a living, access to education is scarce. In addition, there was previously no christian church building within a reasonable walking distance, before two churches were planted by Hands of Hope a few miles apart in different villages.
It is our goal as a non-profit to create a Transformation Center that includes a community school, a trade school, agricultural training, business development, a church building, and small apartments. The local people of Mumbwa and Hands of Hope are partnering with a goal to make these a self-sustaining entity without outside funds being necessary to run.
As of now, a well has been installed, creating an efficient and convenient way for locals to draw clean water, as well as electricity on the land. In addition, the people of the village have built a church, with only roofing materials donated by Hands of Hope. Previously, the congregation was meeting under a tree every Sunday, rain or shine. They have now a temporary small brick building that they worship in, and have planted a second church a few miles away for another village who wanted a church as well!
Our hope is that the Transformation Center provides storage for building equipment, a worship center for the church in the village, a place for first classrooms, bathrooms and bedrooms for mission teams.
On October 1, 2023, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of the future Transformation Center, hosted by Hands of Hope team members and the Chief of Mumbwa. The entire community attended as we dedicated this land and this building to the Lord.
