Hands of Hope Trust School
Hands of Hope Trust School started as Chikondi Community School in 2017 in Lusaka, Zambia with 50 children and 2 teachers. As of 2022, we now have 300+ students ranging from K4 to 7th Grade.
Most of our students are double orphans, meaning they have no living parents, or single orphans, with one living parent, and all of our accepted students are marginalized, meaning do not have means to attend school otherwise.
These students are fed lunch every day; otherwise, many would not have food to eat. We also meet needs where students are at, consistently accepting students who may come from inconsistent or no schooling.
The school is located in a compound in Lusaka, Zambia. In 2021, we transitioned to a building that is owned by Hands of Hope. We praise God that we are be able to have our very own space to be able to make conducive for quality learning.
Children in Zambia face many challenges in education. While we are encouraged by some recent education policies, there is still only 78.6% of children in Lusaka that complete grade 7, and lower percentages for young girls. We create a space to remove every barrier for children to learn, while helping through challenges of lack of food, lack of school supplies, far distances to school, child marriage, and more.
In 2019, Hands of Hope Trust School achieved accreditation and registration with the Zambian government. It is a primary community school, meaning the school serves the community otherwise not served, in ‘baby class’ through Grade 7 primary education.
The budget for the school is paid for by private sponsorship, and we are actively hoping to be able to continue to grow in excellence and our ability to serve these students.
